Aside from simply providing a much-needed safe haven for those who are without a home or hope, the Union Rescue Mission also provides services for health and healing to the whole person.  The URM is one of the oldest and largest missions in the United States with a 225,000 square foot facility currently housing over 1,300 guests.

  • There is a full-scale gymnasium and large workout room where men must attend physical education classes daily.

  • There is an on-site medical facility where guests and neighbors can get free medical and dental care with on-site doctors and dentists from UCLA and USC.

  • Pepperdine University supplies us with attorneys for free legal care as well as psychologists for those guests who struggle with levels of mental illness.

  • The L.A. Dodgers have built a beautiful learning center where program men work two hours a day online to develop their education; from learning to read, to getting a GED to college level electives.

  • Professional caseworkers work tirelessly finding a place to call home for our guests experiencing homelessness.

  • The Employment department prepares and assists our guests to find gainful employment.

  • Full-time seminary-trained chaplains work with our guests to counsel, teach, and guide our guests to spiritual health.

  • The URM kitchen serves a million meals a year to those living in the building as well as our neighbors on skid row.

  • The URM provides 250,000 nights of lodging a year to men, women, and children who find themselves without safe shelter.

  • Thanks to donations from individuals, organizations, and churches, our clothing rooms are stocked with clothing and hygiene items.

  • The recovery program helps people understand who God is, who we are in relationship to God, and the priority of serving others with the skills and strength God gives us.

  • Between chapel services, classes, and bible studies there are multiple opportunities every day for guests to find Christ and be disciple to love and follow him.

If you would like to visit the Union Rescue Mission with your family, small group, business associates, or church leadership please contact me for a personal 90-minute tour.  There is nothing like an on-site visit to the facility and an opportunity to meet some of our guests to develop a heart of compassion for the needy.

Who knows, maybe God will reveal a PART you can play toward helping the poor become WHOLE.
