1 Peter 4:10-11

As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace:11 whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies—in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.

We are all given gifts from God to manage (steward) properly. Some gifts relate to speaking and others to serving. Gifts are not self-generated. Grace means gift. Gifts are received from someone else, in this case God. Therefore, God decides who gets what gift. We need to receive his gifts with gratitude and use them wisely.

Managing, or stewarding, our gifts wisely involves three things:

  1. We are to use these gifts to serve others, not to benefit ourselves.
  2. We are to use these gifts with God’s strength, through his Spirit, not in our own self-effort.
  3. We are to use these gifts to bring God glory, not to make ourselves look good.

Reflection

What are my God-given gifts that he has entrusted to me? How am I managing them as it relates to these three criteria?

Prayer

Thank you God, for granting me giftedness. Help me step into opportunities than grant me to make full use of them to help others. May I always be reminded that they are a result of your grace, not my greatness. May I manage your gifts well, for your purposes and your glory.
