2 Peter 1:15 • 1 minutes to read
Peter was committed to his God-given “why”. He wanted to utilize his remaining time to full capacity. He didn’t want to be involved in activities that weren’t essential to his reason for living. He used “every effort” toward this goal. He focused on it.
He certainly didn’t extend energies in activities that were contrary to his purpose. He was careful to root out sinful activities that would violate his “why”. However, making every effort would also have entailed making decisions to say “no” to good things that weren’t necessarily wrong but didn’t advance his cause.
Sometimes we have to choose between what is good and what is better. Making every effort is adding and eliminating based on what “best” accomplishes the purpose. This is hard work and requires careful, and daily, attention to detail.
Reflection
What would practically change if you “make every effort” to accomplish that purpose?
Prayer
God, May I develop the kind of intensity of commitment to my “why” that Peter possessed.
