Transitions can be stressful and create doubts, fears, and feelings of disconnectedness.
That’s just how Ryan felt as he transitioned out of the Orange County Rescue Mission with his three daughters. Deed and Truth, with the help of the House2Home team from Consolidated Contracting, helped ease the stress by turning his empty apartment into a cozy home for his family.
Here is Ryan’s account of the whole experience…
As we have settled in and completely unpacked, the depth and detail that you all put in on that day have really made such a huge difference in taking the load off of a single dad and the stress of moving and unpacking as well as my daughters in making their rooms feel like home.
We absolutely love everything you all did to make our tiny apartment no only cute, but functional. The girls actually asked me before you all came, “If we don’t like what they did can we change it?” I can tell you… they haven’t changed ANYTHING. The LOVE their rooms.
I love my apartment. I have cooked meals now and everything is exactly where it should be for me. This helps so much as the girls have cross-country, theatre, soccer, and gymnastics always going on and many times I only have 20 minutes to make a meal and start on homework. When I get the girls ready in the morning, we are not looking around trying to find things. Everything is there and has a place.
The mattresses and beds you provided us are perfect and in the colors they (the girls) prefer, which helps them feel unique and like they are in their own “personal part” of the apartment. It feels so much like “us” and the crazy thing is well didn’t even do it. You wonderful people did and I can’t thank you enough.
I don’t get overwhelmed easily but I have no shame in letting you know I was stressed and overwhelmed with this move. I wasn’t certain about the move as we had NOTHING furniture-wise to make a home. I work two jobs and I was trying to find the time that I would need to unpack and set up as quickly as possible so as not to make my daughters feel displaced. The work you did in such a short period of time not only took away my stress but also took away any doubt I had of moving into my apartment. Our apartment is CUTE, as my oldest daughter Maddie has told me. The girls love it. I love it.
As a recovering alcoholic and a single dad this was my first step outside the umbrella of the OC Rescue Mission, and while I know that I had God there to support me there was still some uncertainty. There was still some dread. I truly cannot thank you enough for helping me INSTANTLY with all of that and making me look forward to stepping into our home every day.
THANK YOU SO MUCH, from the bottom of my heart, for helping me provide a beautiful home my daughters can be proud of daily. Thank you to your whole company, the team, and the family members of the team who helped my family. Thank you to Betty Anderson and Deed & Truth for finding angels to help. Thank you for turning our house into a HOME!
1 Peter 4:10 says, “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.” You truly exemplified this verse in what you did for my girls and myself.
I cannot express in words how much it has impacted our lives and how grateful I am. God bless you all.
Sincerely, and with a grateful heart,
The Kneubuhl Family (Ryan, Maddie (14), Emma (12), & Olivia (10)
