“What I didn’t expect when I signed up to volunteer.”
Read what Bonnie, a faithful member on the Well Works H2H team, had to say about her House 2 Home experience.
Most recently, I had the pleasure of playing a role in the Lord’s work through the House 2 Home ministry. A group of volunteers gathered at 8:00 a.m. to begin moving donated furniture and household goods to an empty apartment. Of course, the volunteer team was relieved to have coffee and donuts as fuel. The day began with loading the U-Haul for the twenty minute drive to the location. The team unloaded and assembled the furniture, filled the cupboards and centered (and re-centered) pictures. From a comfy couch to a dining table to break bread at, from kitchen accessories to a desk for Mila to create her art (and of course a little homework too) soon the apartment turned into a home.
What I didn’t expect when signing up to volunteer, was that I too would be blessed that day along with Tony and Mila. Hearing the stories from Tony and his mother; hearing about the heartbreaking situations that the Lord used for good. Seeing the smile on Mila’s face as she called out dibs on the top bunk bed; and, seeing Tony’s delight when he saw his grandfather’s paintings hung at his desk, once again showed me the beauty of the Lord working through His church. In the Lord’s wisdom, the church was created so that we may bless others and be blessed in return by becoming His Hands and Feet to those in need.
God has blessed Tony with the strength and courage to say ‘No’ to his addiction. No to temptation. Through his hard work and determination he has completed his program and started to build a new life for himself and his daughter Mila. Saying ‘Yes’ to the Lord.
May God continue to bless Tony and little Mila in their new life chapter!
