The Deep Pit of Despair

Rebecca found herself sleeping on the sidewalk concrete with her four children and a blanket when someone at the public library asked her a powerful question… “Do you want to change your life?”

Her husband developed severe mental health issues and left the family to a life on the streets, her mother and grandmother died of covid, and her rent drastically increased and that was enough to tempt Rebecca into finding solace in Meth. It was a dark and desperate time. Here is her account of those dark days…

“I can still remember so vividly back in October of 2023, when I found myself once again back in the deep, deep pit of desolation, darkness, and despair. Feeling once again like a good-for-nothing. I felt alone, rejected, ashamed, like a failure, broken and back to square one in my struggle with addiction, homelessness, depression and childhood PTSD.”

Eventually Rebecca found her way to the Orange Country Rescue Mission. In the recovery program she took mandatory classes, did volunteer work, sought out counseling, therapy and attended bible studies. She was willing to do anything and willing to do everything that was offered.

Today her oldest son is in community college and has a job. Her second oldest graduated high school with A’s, B’s, and C’s. Her 17-year old daughter made the honor roll and is receiving a full ride scholarship to Chapman University. Rebecca is working and bought a car by herself.

She has found a healthy family-like environment at her church and these relationships have helped her every step of her recovery.  

Recently, Rebecca secured a lease and the Deed and Truth House2Home team from Well Works took a Saturday to turn her empty apartment into a cozy home. She asks you to pray for the special training she is taking at her place of employment as she wants to get an important promotion. Pray also for her children to continue to do well in school and finish their education.  

Thanks to all of you who pray for this ministry, donate furniture and furnishings, give financially, and a special shout out to the volunteers who moved all the furniture in to Rebecca’s house and did such a beautiful job decorating it. She and her children are so grateful for the generosity and kindness that was demonstrated to her family.
