The Darkest of Times

From foster care, to being trafficked as a sex slave, to being a victim of domestic violence… Marissa has overcome the darkest of times.

Through no fault of her own, Marissa found herself growing up in the foster care program. After high school she was manipulated into human trafficking literally a captive for seven years. She finally got out and met a man, with whom she had a child, who proceeded to physically assault her. He was arrested but the state took her son.  

After surviving abandonment to a system as a child, human trafficking, and domestic violence Marissa had nothing and nothing to show for her young life. She needed a new life, a new start, and that’s exactly what happened.

Marissa got help through the Tustin homeless shelter and then got into the OC Rescue Mission program. Through God’s intervention and the support of the OCRM Marissa got her son back, received needed education, life skills training, and most of all, a relationship with Jesus Christ.  

Marissa worked hard and has become a medical assistant. She has completed the recovery program, got a job, saved money, and has secured housing out of state to be near her very supportive sister.  

Deed and Truth helped Marissa make her housing transition. She hired a moving company to come to our House2Home storage and she was able to pick out all the furniture she needed. We are so pleased to be a small part of Marissa’s recovery story.
