Thank you, Sweetwater Church, for partnering with Deed and Truth to turn Genesis’s house into a home.
H2H is amazing! A lot of hard work but being able to see the change in not only the apartment but the reaction of the family as they see their home for the first time is priceless! They felt the love of Jesus & were transformed.

After a long standing struggle with addiction & losing custody of her two oldest children, at that time only having custody of her youngest, Genesis knew something drastic had to change. Her prayer was simple, “God, I want to go somewhere where I can learn & grow in my relationship with you.” She realized she needed help & the support of a community if she was going to be transformed into the women of God she knew she could become.
Genesis arrived at Hope Gardens in the summer of 2018. After she completed the spiritual & personal development classes she started a new job. While things seemed to be on track, her schedule became busier & her old coping mechanisms rose to the surface…she relapsed. She lost custody of her youngest child & a DCFS case was opened. Genesis had a choice, she could continue down the path of secrecy or she could come clean & commit to walking out her misstep in humility & transparency. She chose the latter. Genesis, leaned on God in brand new ways & was teachable to those God had placed on her journey to support her. Through God’s grace Genesis was able to regain custody of her youngest child & continued to rely on trusted people for support & guidance. Genesis is now working at a Center for Living & Learning as a community health worker.
Recently, God opened the doors for Genesis to move into her very own apartment. Last weekend, Sweetwater Church had the opportunity to partner with Deed and Truth and their House to Home Ministry. We were able to provide the volunteers & essentials to make Genesis house into a home.
Here are some things the Sweetwater team shared in their experience serving;
My husband & I have been on our own journey o f recovery from addiction and homelessness. We personally know the commitment it takes day in and day out to get to where Genesis is today. We are completely honored to be a part of the story, she did all the hard work…

It was such a wonderful experience to be able to partner with God in blessing Genesis and her son to make her house into a home.

It was such a good day! So blessed that we got to be part of a new chapter in Genesis’ life. I felt privileged that Genesis’ entrusted us with such a personal part of her life, not many women would let go of the reins for someone else to decorate their home.

As Genesis’ case manager I saw her go through challenges & hardships not knowing if she would make it. It’s an honor to see her rely on God to the depth she has & to witness HIS transformative work in her simply because she said ‘yes.’ Genesis’ story highlights what God can do when we surrender our will, wants, desires & submit to His. I am forever proud of the woman that Genesis is.

There are some things money can’t buy… like the feeling of turning a house into a home for a family that has experienced the trauma of homelessness… that’s PRICELESS!
One more blessed family! Thank you Deed and Truth for making another family so happy sharing in God’s love. ❤
