New Year’s Resolutions historically have a short shelf life. Surveys say till February due to various reasons including being too general or unrealistic. I would like to offer a simple one that I think is easily attainable and sustainable. It’s one I think we should all consider making… Get your heart in better shape. Now that’s pretty general so let me provide a more specific exercise to build a healthier heart:

The best exercise for a healthy heart is to reach down and lift someone up…

Here’s what that could look like on any and every given day of 2026…

  • Share an encouraging word
  • Give a sincere compliment
  • Look a homeless person in the eyes and smile
  • Comfort someone who is hurting
  • Supply a practical need for the needy
  • Call an old friend
  • Pay the bill for a senior citizen in line next to you
  • Get down on one knee to be at eye level when speaking to a small child
  • Pray for the person in the news report who is experiencing loss
  • _____(fill in the blank)_____

Happy New Year!
