The kids thought Motel 6 was their home!

After living in a car, sleeping on friends’ sofas, moving around from one Motel 6 to another, and staying in a rescue mission, they are finally in a real apartment they can call home.

Joey and Sierra typically say, “we were more than homeless”.  They both grew up in dysfunctional families and consequently became drug and alcohol addicts for more than a decade. They had developed many bad habits and were living without hope after lives filled with disappointment and severe trauma.

If having such difficult childhoods wasn’t enough to deal with, a drunk driver careened out of control running into Joey and their youngest child on the sidewalk. Joey landed in the hospital in a coma but their precious child didn’t survive.

Then God intervened in a very personal way. The family was sleeping in a car one night when there was a knock on the window. A policeman shined a light inside the vehicle and said something that really hit home. He said, these children aren’t safe living in a car. You need to find a place to get help. It hit home for Sierra in a powerful way, as it reminded her of an event that took place when she was a child living in a car with her mother and a policeman did the same thing way back then. The deja vu experience brought back that memory and Sierra could see she was turning into her dysfunctional mother.

Joey and Sierra made the tough decision to enter the program at the Orange County Rescue. They have done the hard work to turn their lives around for the better and are convinced that their daughters will never have to sleep on the streets or in a Motel 6 again!

Deed and Truth helped Joey, Sierra, and their two daughters move into a new home thanks to our partnership with the House2home team at Pacific Coast Church from San Clemente.

Please pray for Joey as he is looking to improve his employment situation. Although he works full-time he wants to get a position that will provide a true career path. Sierra also has a full-time job, and is so excited to begin making family memories in their home beautifully furnished by Deed and Truth.
