Having grown up in a dysfunctional home, Desiree had a strong desire to be a part of a loving family.
She met a man who came from a wonderful family. And it was wonderful… until it wasn’t. Desiree soon found out he was abusive and she became another statistic of domestic violence. Not wanting her children to experience life on the street she kept sofa surfing until her sofas ran out.
Desiree finally found an organization called “Next Step.” Next Step, a faith based organization, provides rooms in homes for single moms with elementary-aged children to stay on a temporary basis. Here, Jackie, the Director, became a loving mentor to Desiree and guided her to a personal understanding of God through Jesus Christ.
Deed and Truth has developed a relationship with Next Step and we were happy to jump in and help when Desiree recently secured a three-bedroom apartment. Our House2Home team from Pacific Coast Church in San Clemente partnered with us to turn Desiree’s empty house into a home.
Desiree is so moved by the compassion of God as displayed in very practical means… through pieces of furniture, and wall-art, and kitchen supplies, as well as the physical efforts of volunteers to show up at her new digs in Irvine to transform an empty space into a beautiful place.
It’s now a place to call “Home”… a place to be proud of… a place to raise her children… a place her children can invite their friends over… a place to blow out birthday candles at their birthday parties… a place to put up a Christmas tree and sing songs of worship to God for his goodness of not only rescuing her from a traumatic experience but also providing her with an answer to her prayer and a fulfillment of her desires… to belong to a real, caring family… a family that God is creating through her as a loving mother to her precious children.

Amazing turnaround for these women Mike and Terri! That is the business of Jesus the Christ (changing lives that is). It happened for me at 19 years old.
Such a blessing for these ladies!! It’s truly a wonderful thing to see there are still folks around that care enough about others to put action in place at this level and get a reset in motion for these fortunate ladies and children.
