Our philosophy at Deed and Truth is not to come “under” people to totally support them, nor to come “over” them as though we are superior to them, but to come “alongside” them in their journey as they transition out of Recovery Programs at Rescue Missions.
Coming alongside is offering practical help as we initially move them into their first apartment as we like to say, turning their house into a home.
We also encourage our volunteer teams to maintain relationship with the family, keeping in touch with phone calls, texts, and remembering them on special occasions. One such team from Grace Church in Laguna Niguel did just that. They had provided a H2H experience for a couple earlier in the year and then as the holidays approached they reached to make it extra special. Here’s a brief summary from Amy @ Grace Church.
Jerry and Katy are a sweet, hard-working couple who graduated from Orange County Rescue Mission and were moved into their Mission Viejo apartment in October, with the help of House2Home and Grace Church Laguna Niguel. A few short days later, they were united in marriage with an intimate, beautiful wedding!
The House 2 Home follow-up team at Grace Church have been in regular communication with Jerry and Katy since that time, and they are doing exceptionally well! They both work full-time at a hotel and fellowship with their church at a Bible study each week.
The follow up team @ Grace Church donated a complete Thanksgiving meal for them, providing all of the groceries and ingredients they needed so they could prepare a festive meal for themselves. They loved it!
The team also bought both of them small Christmas gifts, and brought them a ready-made Italian meal to enjoy on Christmas Eve!
Jerry and Katy are constantly sharing with the team and their friends how faithful the Lord has been to them, and how grateful they are for the continued support they have received. Praise the Lord!’

Deed and Truth also offers professional trauma counseling should the families require assistance in that way.
Please keep the Johnson’s in your prayers. That first year can be very exciting but also very scary. They are doing great with the help of their church and the H2H team from Grace Church. Thanks also to the caring people at Grace Church for their compassion hearts and faithful follow up to come “alongside” Jerry and Katie.
