It’s not just children who experience trauma at school, sometimes it’s the teacher.

Sonya had been a teacher for 13 years. She was committed to being an educator and developing her students. Then she was attacked by an irate parent who illegally entered the school campus.

Terror filled her mind and her heart pounded with fear as she blocked the children behind her from the aggressor. As a result, she needed to take a leave of absence and could not overcome the trauma. She vowed to never teach again.

Out of work and unable to cope with her emotions, Sonya fell into depression and began to abuse alcohol to avoid reality. Her excessive drinking created an addiction and she began to spiral out of control.

Sonya eventually exhausted her savings. With two children of her own to support and no means to do so she found her way to the Village of Hope @ the Orange County Rescue Mission. There, God restored everything Sonya had thought she had lost… her dignity, her relationship with God, her sobriety, and her confidence.

Now Sonya has returned to the classroom as a teacher for the Los Angeles Unified School District. She is working and saving. Pray for her as Sonya plans to take salary point classes to increase her earning power and move up the pay scale to care for her family as a single mother of two.

Recently, Deed and Truth’s House2home team from Pacific Coast Church helped Sonya move into a new apartment in Tustin. The team was eager to serve God by blessing Sonya’s family. They transformed that empty house and turned it into a cozy home with everything needed to furnish their new space.

It turned out beautifully. Sonya and the children felt so blessed by this practical display of God’s love through his people from Pacific Coast Church. She sent us this text after the move-in…

“Thank you for Deed and Truth and all that you do.  We love what the House2Home team did in our apartment.  It’s perfect!  We are really enjoying it.”
Love, Sonya, Ginger, & Trevor

Thank you to all our financial and furnishing donors, hands-on volunteers, and those of you who pray regularly for this ministry to benefit the least of these. We consider you all essential Partners in the Gospel. And a BIG “THANK YOU” to our friends @ PACIFIC COAST CHURCH in San Clemente for being the Hands & Feet of Jesus to encourage this special family.
